Questions that Haunt Me #1

I have a confession. I am addicted to doomscrolling. Sure, I also try to look for uplifting videos: videos that make me laugh, contain cute animals, or inspire me. But it's so very easy to stumble into drama or go down rabbit holes about the most recent toxic parent, so-called "nice guy," entitled influencers, and every other aspect of our broken society that titillates and shocks.

That's part of what is dooming us all.

But every time I go on this journey, my mind whirls with questions that need answering. I have my own answers to many of them, but I want to hear from others. I want to start conversations. I want to challenge beliefs. I want someone to explain to me how the world works, with actual evidence and/or legitimate insight.

So here goes. In no particular order, 10 questions that haunt me. Trust me, there are many more. Feel free to respond in the comments below:

  • Why are women considered too emotional for anything, when men are more often the ones to go into violent tirades (if not outright abuse or murder) when they feel wronged? (*Yes, I know it's NOT ALL MEN, but the numbers don't lie--and the prime example in the White House seems to model for all.)

  • Why is empathy seen as a bad thing? When did kindness become a negative?

  • Why do the most vile people on the internet (particularly TikTok) seem to get the most attention and followers? And, why do people send them money?

  • If the whole point of religion is the reward at the end of life, then why do those who believe that fear death so much?

  • Why are men so afraid of women?

  • Why do people care so much about other people's genitalia or sex life?

  • When did it become a sin to be educated, to think for ourselves, and to question authority?

  • Have all the parents who are terrified of vaccines never received a vaccine in their childhood? I mean, many of them would not have survived childhood if they hadn't, right? Or, since they believe the fallacy that vaccines cause autism, are they autistic as well? (I'm not saying they are, nor do I believe that lie, but the logic isn't logic-ing.

  • Why is it so bad to want to make the world we live in a better place, rather than wait for the dream of Heaven? I personally would rather create a heaven on earth that is not beholden to any god.

  • If we have created all kinds of time-saving technology to make life easier, then why is there a push to make people work until they drop dead?

I realize that the answer to these questions often comes down to late-stage capitalism, patriarchy, greed, and corruption of government and religion. But I really want to understand the illogical logic that seems to consume society.

Does anyone have any answers?
